Times Where a Sinus Lift Surgery Could Improve Your Oral Health

Times Where a Sinus Lift Surgery Could Improve Your Oral HealthMany people are unaware how closely related the sinuses and oral cavity are. In fact, they aren't even close—they're connected! Because of their relationship to one another, things that affect one negatively can affect the other one. When you have a sinus infection, it's even possible to get an infection in the back of your mouth.

A sinus lift surgery may be the solution you need to improve your oral health. A sinus lift is a procedure where bone graft material is added to the back of your mouth to create more room for your sinuses. When your sinuses don't have enough room, this can cause respiratory issues, oral infections, and sinus drainage problems.

Is a Sinus Lift Right for You?

A sinus lift is started by checking to see if you're an eligible candidate. Most candidates have lost teeth in the back of their mouth, causing bone loss in the jaw. When bone loss in the upper jaw occurs, the jaw begins to block the sinus passages located at the back of the mouth. By restoring the bone in the upper back jaw, it gains support back, allowing more room for the sinus passages.

A sinus lift may also be a good option for you if you were born with sinuses too close to your upper jaw. Because everyone is different, it's possible to be born with narrow sinus passages. Luckily, this can be helped with the use of a sinus lift.

If you have trouble bleeding, constant oral infections, or sinus drainage problems and think a sinus lift may be a viable option for you, contact us through our office number. We can assist you in scheduling an appointment and making sure you get the help you need.
