What are Dental Implants Made of?Dental implants are considered safe and provide a lasting solution to teeth replacement. The material used to manufacture them is beneficial in giving them safety and endless abilities and provides the give functionality abilities as they contribute to oral health.

The most used dental implant materials for manufacturing implants are pure titanium or alloys of titanium with other metals. In addition, titanium creates a stable oxide layer to cover it when air exposure makes it a compatible dental material. Additional material includes the Zirconium non-metallic material.

Titanium Material

Titanium is widely used in manufacturing dental implants because of many factors. Its degree of purity is a significant determinant in choosing it for manufacturing. The most used type of titanium is grade 1, which is highly pure and has low oxygen and iron content.

Titanium is an ideal material for dental implants because it's highly compatible and offers excellent resistance to corrosion from environmental factors. More so, many dental implants are manufactured from different titanium alloys.

However, the challenge with titanium is that its natural color appearance may be seen; hence tissue conditions or implant recessions can compromise its esthetics. However, with the new technology, dental implants of ceramic materials have been developed to deal with this issue.

Zirconium Material

Dental implants manufactured from the zirconium material are made specifically for individuals with allergies to metals. During manufacture, it's manufactured in the form of zirconium oxide with added components, providing an opaque appearance commonly referred to as ceramic. However, compared to titanium, they are less versatile since they are manufactured from one piece of material.

Finally, in addition to the material used to manufacture dental implants, the topography of the dental implants is essential to ensure good placement and installation. The quality of the implant surface is a factor that influences wound healing.
