Custom Chin & Cheek Implants
We utilize custom silicone implants that are placed thru small skin incisions (placed in existing skin creases) or from inside the mouth to augment weak chin and cheekbones. The implants are held in place using mini bone screws to prevent them from migrating or moving during facial animation. We are able to plan the size of the implants with precision using our 3D Cone Beam CT data to see what size would best fit our patient’s aesthetic needs and desires. These implants are soft and feel very natural.
The appearance of your face can significantly impact your confidence. After all, your face is one of the most prominent features about you, and it is often the very first thing that others notice. If your facial features are imbalanced, you may be self-conscious, which can be reflected in your interactions with others. Imbalances can also impact how others view you. At Lehigh Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, we can help to restore balance to your face, improving your confidence with chin and cheek implants.
Why Chin and Cheek Implants?Chin and cheek implants, or facial implants, are a treatment offered to improve facial balance and enhance the appearance of your facial structure. Chin implants are a treatment for improving the appearance of a small chin, making it larger and giving it more projection. With a chin implant, we can help to provide equal proportions between your chin, forehead, and mid-face regions. Along the same lines, a jaw implant may also be provided. A jaw implant widens the lower part of your face and provides you with a more defined jawline.
As we age, we begin to lose fat in certain areas of the face including the cheek area. Loss of fat in this region contributes to sagging skin and wrinkles. Cheek implants provide you an effective solution to add volume back to the flat areas of the face and increase the projection of your cheekbones. Cheek implants provide a partial lift, which helps to restore a more youthful appearance to your face.
Your ConsultationBefore undergoing a chin or cheek implant procedure, a consultation is conducted. Your consultation allows us to determine if facial implants are the right solution for you. We go over your medical history, your lifestyle habits, and what your goals of treatment are. We perform an exam and take pictures. You are then provided with preoperative instructions and scheduled for surgery.
Facial Implant SurgeryBefore beginning surgery, you are provided with sedation or general anesthesia. Sedation is used to help ensure your comfort during the procedure. The type of facial implants you receive will determine the location of your surgical incisions. Incisions for chin implants are generally made inside the mouth at the meeting point between the lower lip and your gums. Jaw implant incisions are often made inside the mouth where your cheek meets the gums in your lower jaw. Cheek implant incisions are also typically made inside the mouth. After making incisions, a space for the implant is made. The silicone implant is placed inside, and the surgical wounds are sutured closed.
What to Expect After SurgeryWhile chin and cheek implants are immediately visible after surgery, the results may not be noticeable right away. This is due to some swelling and bruising, just like any other cosmetic surgery procedure. You will be provided with postoperative care instructions, which should be followed to reduce the risk of infections or other complications. It can take several months for all swelling and discoloration to disappear, but once it dissipates, the results of your procedure will last for a long time.
