Guntas Kakar, DDS Allentown, PA
Dr. Kakar was born and raised in India. Growing up, he encountered a lack of access to quality medical care, which spiked his interest in the field of medicine. He attended University of California, Irvine where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 2011. He then received his Doctorate in Dental Surgery from the highly ranked University of California Los Angeles, School of Dentistry in 2017. At UCLA, he was actively involved in research and organized dentistry, serving in outreach, legislative and teaching opportunities within the American Student Dental Association. For his teaching efforts he was awarded with the Section Award in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He was also recognized by the American Academy of Oral Medicine for founding the Oral Medicine Club which allowed students access to interpersonal learning through comprehensive case discussions.
After obtaining his dental degree, Dr. Kakar completed his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at University of Cincinnati Medical Center/Cincinnati Children’s Medical Center. University of Cincinnati Health Center and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital are world-renowned health institutes with UC being the first OMFS program in the nation.
At University of Cincinnati, his research interests involved testing a new treatment modality for medication induced Osteonecrosis of the Jaw utilizing bone labeling fluorescence. He has gained extensive surgical experience in Dental Extractions, Dental Implants, Facial Trauma, Head and Neck Infections, Orthognathic Surgery, diagnosis and treatment of Maxillofacial Pathology. He performs his invasive procedures at Lehigh Valley Hospital (Level 1 Trauma Center) and volunteers his time teaching General Dental Practice Residents at LVH.
Given the ongoing U.S. opioid epidemic, opioid misuse and related abuse, Dr. Kakar utilizes opioid-free sedation technique during wisdom teeth extractions to avoid any unnecessary opioid exposure for his patients. This translates to a faster recovery from anesthesia with minimal side effects from nausea and vomiting.
Dr. Kakar is also trained in Botox for cosmetic purposes and for the treatment of myofascial pain due to bruxism.
Dr. Kakar is a member of AAOMS, ADA and PSOMS.
Dr. Kakar’s personal interests include travelling, playing basketball, trying different food cuisines and spending time with family. |
