Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty)

A woman's face partitioned to show before and after of facial cosmetic surgery. For those who have issues with the way their nose looks or functions we have a stellar solution - rhinoplasty. The nose is one of the most frequently altered body parts because it holds such a prominent place on the face. Front and center always tends to get the most attention. With our help you can have the nose you have dreamed of!

Why Rhinoplasty?

If you are displeased with the size, shape, or angle of your nose we have the ability to change any or all of those factors. If you have suffered facial trauma that has resulted in a change in the appearance of your nose, we can often fix that. We are even able to give your nose a clear breathing passage when it is chronically obstructed. Rhinoplasty is such a standard operation that age is not typically an issue.

Preparation & What to Expect

As with any surgical procedure we will request a list of any medications that you are taking along with any allergies that you are aware of. We use this, coupled with your medical history, to determine if there is anything special we must take into consideration for the procedure. We will discuss with you exactly how you would like your nose to look and what we will need to do to achieve success.

We will also take pre-operative photographs of your face from multiple angles, to create a digitally manipulated image of the desired results. Essentially, you will get to see pictures of the desired outcome of your surgery before having the procedure done. Typically, we will prescribe antibiotics before the procedure to reduce the risk of infection during recovery.

The Surgery

Surgery is done with the aid of general anesthesia, so you will be unconscious for the procedure. Generally, during a surgery meant to reduce the size of the nose, the skin will be taken back from the tissue below, after which the cartilage and bone are modified. Once the modification process has been completed the skin will be re-attached.

In the case of a deviated septum the doctor will enter the nose through the nostril and separate the mucosa from the cartilage. The mucosa is the lining of the nostril. Once the cartilage is exposed it is manipulated into forming a straight passage between the back and front of the nostrils. The mucosa will be re-attached and allowed to heal.

Post-Operative Information

Recovery from a rhinoplasty procedure only takes a couple weeks. You will be given a splint to wear that will keep your nose safe. In the case of a septum correction the splint will be placed in the nostril at the time of the surgery, and we will remove it in a few weeks time. It is reasonable to expect some bruising around the eyes, but pain is minimal and can be controlled with standard pain medications.
